The Mothers' Union meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month (2nd Wednesday in December), at 7.30pm during the Summer months and at 2.00pm in Winter.
Our meetings begin with Mass in the Lady Chapel at St Augustine's and the rest of the meeting takes place in the Parish Hall. Usually we have a guest speaker, demonstrating a particular skill, recounting an especially interesting journey or telling us about the work of an organisation with particular interest.
Topics covered by recent speakers have included:
- "The Female of the Species"
- "A Time Traveller's Guide To The City Of York"
- Bolton Winterwatch and Bolton Outreach
- Policing in the 50s and 60s
- Flower Arranging
- Scuba Diving
- Relaxation and Wellbeing
Every year our August meeting takes the form of a day trip to a local(ish) place of interest, with a meal on the return journey. We also have a Christmas meal during, or on the run-up to, Christmas.
For a number of years we have supported Make A Mother's Day, an MU-run scheme whereby ethical gifts bough (for mothers or anyone else) help fund MU ptojects throughout the world.
We have also supported Freshers' Week, in which items useful to new First Year students at Salford University are collected - from frying to cups to bars of soap, and everything inbetween.
Our Branch Leader is Miss Elsie Hollinrake, and Secretary is Barbara Davis.
